Matt Baron photoMatt Baron
founder of Inside Edge: Public Relations & Media Services, has crafted stories professionally since 1984.

For two decades, Matt was a reporter for small-town weeklies, big-city dailies, and national magazines. Now, applying the same integrity, resourcefulness, aggressiveness and creativity for clients, he provides the inside edge that connects them and their stories with a broad spectrum of media decision-makers.

Matt’s work has garnered awards in investigative reporting, news writing and feature writing from the Illinois Press Association, Copley Newspapers, the Northern Illinois Newspaper Association and others.

His work has been syndicated nationally and has appeared in dozens of publications, including Time, USA Today and the Chicago Tribune. For a six-year period, he was one of the most prolific reporters for the Tribune, including 2004, when he wrote more than 350 stories ranging from local government coverage to business features to breaking news.

In the process, Matt has developed not only strong media connections, but also a personal insight into how reporters, editors, producers and other media decision-makers think, their day-to-day challenges, and what draws them to one story idea over another.

Since 2001, through workshops, webinars and columns, Matt has trained thousands of professionals, ranging from reporters and publicists to a wide array of business leaders. His topics encompass various facets of the story-telling process, such as interviewing techniques, numerical literacy, and working effectively with reporters under deadline pressure.

Some of the nation’s most respected PR firms, including GolinHarris and Edelman, have retained his counsel for all-day training sessions on media crisis management and developing positive relations with the media.

Matt is a graduate of Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, where over the past decade he has been an occasional guest lecturer to graduate- and undergraduate-level classes.

A member of the Oak Park-River Forest Chamber of Commerce, the Oak Park Partners chapter of Business Networking International, and Harvest Bible Chapel, Matt resides in the Chicago area with his wife and twin children.

He's a gifted wordsmith, an engaging speaker, a true professional, a genuinely good person and a great family man. Plus, he's really tall.
