A punctuation-challenged, presumptuous striking Chicago Public School teacher--a unique blend of amusing and annoying.
I don’t know if this sign, of a striking Chicago Public School teacher, is more amusing than annoying.

What’s amusing: that the individual who made the sign–presumably a school teacher–gets an “F” for punctuation. (There should be a comma between “this” and “honk.”)

Obviously, this is hardly the most credible sign, if the teacher toting the placard is striving to make the point that she and her colleagues have been an indispensable part of our collective education.

And that leads me to what’s annoying about the sign: the presumptuous, arrogant tone of school teachers who, with their “You’re Welcome” capper, seek to take more credit for our education than is warranted.

I greatly value education, including that which I received in the four schools that I attended between 1973 and 1990. But most of my education has taken place well outside the classroom–a fact that is shared by my wife and our two (home-schooled) children.

If a school teacher (or anyone else, for that matter) can read this blog post, then there’s this wrap-up to that conditional clause: feel free to share a comment!
